About the Cornwall Junior Choir


		About us Cornwall Junior Choir has been going since January 2001 and was set up through a partnership between Cornwall Music Service and Truro Cathedral. It is the first of its kind in the country. There are now about 50 of us aged 6-15 and we come from all over Cornwall It's great fun. We're very friendly and hold regular parties! "It's really cool because we get loads of chances to do things we wouldn't do in school choir." Josie We sing a wide variety of music - from traditional Christmas carols like Away in a Manger and the Star Carol to "songs from the shows" such as I Got Rhythm and Only You. The Truro Cathedral project is part of a nationwide outreach scheme organised by the CSA and supported by MDS. It is a major strand of the Music Manifesto's National Singing Programme.
		Come along You're welcome to come along any Saturday in term-time from 10.00 - 11.30 at Truro Cathedral. We meet just inside the main west door. Choir secretary Julia Carter and musical director Angela Renshaw will be there to welcome you and answer any questions about the choir's organisation and activities. The 50-strong mixed choir always welcomes new members. Anyone aged from 6 to 14 years can join; membership is free. Young singers come from all over Cornwall every week for expert tuition under the musical directors. We sing a wide variety of classical and modern music and give regular performances at venues round the county.
		Join us Membership is only £30 a term. We ask you to buy a Cornish gold fisherman-style choir smock (left) costing £10. We wear these for every performance.

		Meet us Our conductor/director is Angela Renshaw, who is the Government's South West area leader for 'Sing Up'. She has recently taken over as sole conductor for the choir as financial cuts have meant that we could no longer justify the cost of two musical leaders. Angela works for the county music service/Truro Cathedral outreach projects for both the primary and secondary sectors and has recently been appointed Director of the Holman Climax Male Choir. She is renowned throughout Cornwall for her work with 'The Cornwall Boys Choir' and other vocal groups. "I like junior choir because you get to know new people from different places - I met my friend Katherine here. I also like junior choir because you get to sing very interesting songs, pieces from Benjamin Britten and... Mr Hayward!" Sofi

		Julia Carter is our choir administrator. She's on hand at all our rehearsals and concerts. She is also the choir secretary - contact her with any queries.
		Angus Webster joined Cornwall Junior Choir as a singer in February 2009, he took on the role of the Choir’s accompanist after the departure of Mr Hayward later that same year. He is 12 years old and lives in Falmouth. Angus is a pianist, organist and accompanist, he accompanies several choirs across the County as well as Cornwall Junior Choir, including Cornwall Boys Choir and Cornwall Changing Voices Boys Choir. He is Assistant Organist at Falmouth Parish Church where he plays for Sunday services and accompanies the choir. He has played organ recitals at Truro Cathedral and for the Incorporated Association of Organists of the UK. He is also the host of a classical music radio show, Angus’s Classic Hour, on Falmouth and Penryns community radio station, The Source 96.1 FM. Angus recently reached the finals of the West Cornwall Young Musician of the Year 2011 and was awarded the Morris Cup in Organ Playing at the Cornwall Music Festival 2011. He is a student of South West Music School and is currently at Falmouth School.
